Responsible cultivation

At our company, we place great importance on corporate social responsibility. We strive for sustainable operations that contribute to the preservation of the environment, the health of our employees, and the development of the younger generation of workers.

Sustainable lily cultivation

To achieve this, we have joined various initiatives and certifications, including Sustainable Bulb Cultivation Drenthe (via our contract grower), MPS ABC certification, Global GAP, and SBB. In addition, our product annually stores approximately 3000 tons of CO2 permanently, and we use only green electricity generated from wind energy.

  • Certifications & initiatives

Member of, among others, Sustainable Bulb Cultivation Drenthe (via contract grower), MPS ABC, Global GAP and ETI Base Code.

  • Green energy

We use only green electricity generated from wind energy.

  • Training talent

Recognized training company via SBB: we actively invest in the development of young professionals.

Sustainable Bulb Cultivation Drenthe is an initiative in which governments, growers, sector representatives, crop advisors, and researchers work intensively together to make bulb cultivation structurally more sustainable with minimal environmental impact. Through practical-scale experiments and multi-year trials, new methods and systems are tested that significantly reduce environmental impact. Local residents, interested parties, and community groups are closely involved in the results and regularly informed about progress.

MPS ABC certification is a sustainability certification that assesses, among other things, the use of crop protection products, energy consumption, and waste management. This certification demonstrates that we cultivate our lily bulbs sustainably and minimize our environmental impact.

We are also registered with Global GAP, a certification focused on food safety, sustainability, and the social aspects of production. This shows that we are committed to responsible cultivation and production of our lily bulbs.

Recognized training company by SBB

In addition to these certifications, we are also active as a training company for young people. We believe it is important to give young people the opportunity to gain experience in the agricultural sector and to develop personally and professionally. By training and guiding young people, we contribute to the future of the agricultural sector and help them develop essential skills and knowledge. This is why we participate in SBB.

SBB is a Dutch organization focused on cooperation between vocational education and the business community. SBB is responsible for recognizing and supporting training companies, developing qualification files, and advising the government on aligning education with the labor market. SBB also supports schools and companies in shaping internships and apprenticeships for students in secondary vocational and practical education. The goal of SBB is to improve the quality of vocational education and strengthen its alignment with the labor market.

ETI Base Code

In addition, we work according to the principles of the ETI Base Code, an internationally recognized code of conduct on ethical labor conditions. This code is based on the conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and focuses, among other things, on safe and healthy working conditions, fair remuneration, the prohibition of child labor and forced labor, and respecting workers' rights.

By following the ETI Base Code, we ensure that everyone involved in our cultivation – both in our own company and in the supply chain – can work in a fair, safe, and respectful manner. This aligns with our vision of corporate social responsibility and our ongoing commitment to being a reliable and transparent partner within the sector.

CO2 Storage

Lily Company BV’s lily bulb cultivation stores 286,902 kg of CO2 permanently each year in the production of 110 hectares of lilies.

These lily bulbs are sold for garden and park planting, and therefore continue to store CO2, contributing to the total stored amount. Lily waste contains 21% dry matter, and lilies yield 2,268 kg of dry matter per hectare, with 450 kg of effective organic matter per hectare per year.
